How to Boost Your English Basic Skill... (Continuation)

  1. Practice, practice, and practice
Maybe this is the hardest and heaviest part of learning English. Even if you could master the ‘English theory’, it doesn’t guarantee that you could practice it as well as your theory. Ya, I personally do recognise that practice is difficult to be done, but it doesn’t mean improbable, guys. Because whatever, English is a language, and it needs to be practiced by speaking, writing, and listening.
The most common reason why people reluctantly practice their English is very classical. They are afraid to make mistake during the practice and that also make them ashamed of. Continuosly they think, when they do make mistake, people will think that they’re dummy and will be easily be mocked by the others.  Come on guys, just stand up ! remember that when you were a baby, you couldn’t walk. After several times you  fell to floor and tried to stand up again, you were finally able to walk by yourself. No difference in learning English. As a natural born human, you need to fall before you could stand. So, making mistakes is normally happening to everything, including when you learn English. I just wanna tell you, we’ll never know to differentiate which one is wrong or right if we never do any mistake. So, don’t be afraid again. The more you make mistake, your skills will immediately get better.
  1. Create your exciting timeline
Well guys, if you had already started with interest, set up your goal, and practiced your English, it is the right moment for you to create your own timeline. Yaps, many researches had proven that moods give the significant effects to what we do. Moreover, we certainly do have our own activities (attending daily lecture, weekly organization meeting, finishing homework, etc) that also contribute to our emotional situation. So, managing the time will be one factor to control your moods in learning English.
This depends on your daily activities. Check your spare time and make your fun activities that relate to English at least one time a week. If you’re interested to boost your vocabulary storage, you may play scrabble or crosswords with your friends. If you want to practice your speaking, you can attend the conversation club and talk about fun and informal thing. With creating your own timeline you can be consistent and responsible. Once again, English is a language that need to be practiced. If you’re not practicing consistently, you’ll need extra time to repeat your last practice before continuing on to next practice, definitly it takes longer time to make you increase your English skills. Shorter time you  could do, more things that you could reach, right ? One more thing, if you don’t have friends to help you practicing your English, just go to Plasma every Tuesday night if you’re interested in English scrabble and attend our weekly converstion club every Monday and Thursday in the afternoon at Taman CD. :D
  1. Performance
What will you say to someone who says that they are able to do something without further real action? We usually say them as omdo (omong doang) in bahasa or NATO (no actions, talks only) in English, right? Would you like to be called like that? Of course none wanna be called with that name. Ya, now I am attracting you to ‘prove’ all the thing you’ve learnt and practiced. One simple way is performing your skills in front of other people. You can do that in various activities, such as talking with someone that you think better than you, publish your English writing to the media or your personal blog, or test your capability by joining any English competition.
One repetition, don’t ever be afraid to make mistake, guys. Definitely, a perfect performance rarely happens at the first trial. Have you ever watched movie “The King’s Speech”? That is the ideal example for everyone to do the performance. That we need many processes to get the perfection. By performing your English, you can train not only your skills, but also your bravery, mentality, good communication, and another positive thing. Let’s say that you ‘fail’ to win the speech competition at the first time, or your writing is rejected by media, or you make your friend confused when you ask for conversation. Don’t stop at that point. You’ll certainly ask yourself why that could happen to you. And more or less you need to take your ‘revenge’ against them. Just try it again and again. Cure your sadness that you are capable and find the way to make you better. Strengthen your heart and think you can do it. Slowly but sure you’ll feel the significant change and positive progress happen to you.
So guys, it’s not too late to start learning. Convince that you are able to do, start with something you like, set up your goal, practice it regularly, creating your enjoyable timeline, and just perform. English actually isn’t as horrible as you thought. Many fun tricks you could do to ‘conquer’ it. Some simple tricks above could be your reference to begin with. If you have another ones, that would be more funny and exciting for you to learn English. Just try, never feel afraid, and be creative. Find the tricks that make you feel ease and comfort besides those I mentioned above. Nobody knows you better than yourself, right?
